A View From Chez Newb

I’m officially in the holiday spirit. Whether it’s the snow, the boxes of Christmas decorations that have exploded in my basement or the holiday cheer that I’ve been sipping, it’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas to me. Usually it takes me until December to get in the mood — not sure why?

So here are some bits and pieces around my house today. They’re helping me to appreciate the pretty and avoid the “not-so-pretty” during our kitchen update.

This first picture is my happy place. A soft pillow, a warm blanket, a fresh bunch of clementines and some cedar greens. I had a friend over this afternoon. I am not disciplined enough to drink that much water.

We bought a set of stag coat hooks at Zone about a year ago. Love them. The bells were passed along to us from my husband’s grandparents. They hung in their house for years and were a gift from their friends in Germany, I believe.

These moose bookends were too fun to pass up. I picked them up at Chapters this weekend. Not just decorative…functional too right? moose bookends

Nothing is more simple than pinecones in a clear vessel. The glass containers have been around for so long that I’m not sure where I picked them up.

And the green votive was another impulse buy at Chapters this weekend. indigo votive

What’s making you happy these days? Dreaming of snow angels in our rapidly accumulating snow drifts? Avoiding long lines in the malls by smugly saying, I’ve already bought all my gifts? (No, me either.)

Whew, I’m resting … for a couple days at least! We’re finishing up the redo on our bathroom cabinets (turned out great) and our TG company isn’t coming until Saturday. I’ll start bringing up the Christmas stuff soon though … getting excited. Feeling like copper this year. Collected a bunch of pine cones last week and I’m spraying them copper. Who knows from there.

Have a wonderful, safe and HAPPY THANKSGIVING.

Happy Thanksgiving Cheryl! It sounds like you are onto a great start! I sprayed some acorns copper this year — so pretty. I’ll have to check out those cabinets. Have a wonderful holiday :-) M

Ok I’m jonesing for those sleigh bells. What a treasure! I also use about a ton of pinecones at this time of year, I love their texture and neutral colour.
